Concept

In the world of Shadowrun, Japan has made California a puppet-state, in the same manner that Manchuria once was. It has also sparked the movement for Hawaii's independence. I think JIS has politically interfered with many other countries. CFS and Hawii are only the most remarkable cases in Shadowrun. Japan fits the movie and novel stereotype of the "Evil Empire". It's even named the Japanese Imperial State, so it can easily be set as a villain, correct?

We are sometimes asked, &But why do you want to present your own country as evil?"
We reply "Because it's interesting!"
We feel that Japan as a villain sounds better than Japan as a weak nation.

  >>>>>[While I wouldn't say I'd consider Japan to
be evil, I would say that they're trying to
minimize the effects the corps are having on them.
Especially after the way they screwed Britain and
China over with the Hong Kong Free Zone. (see
  Choose Your Enemies Carefully.)]<<<<<

  1. JIS looks like strong Nation.
  2. Japanese megacorps strive to maintain good relationships with the JIS. Part of maintaining a good relationship with the JIS is to work to ensure the growth of the power of Japan. Thus, these corporations must co-operate within Japan, although outside of Japan, they may freely compete.
  3. The ruling powers of the JIS are a powerful magical force, and support the development of magic as an industry and a weapon within Japan.
  4. The JIS has a large number of problems dealing with displaced peoples from far east hot spots, metahumans, awakend anti-mikado peoples and etc.
  5. In the 2050's, these problems became much more serious in some megaplexes. It's very hard to keep the peace. (Runner works such places.)
