Like any other peoples, Japan has memorial traditon.
Now we'll call whole of magical traditions for memorial as Ki-Do. The letter Ki is same as the letter Oni. But meaning of Ki is not same as Oni. Oni is demonish giants living in mountains and hells. Ki means the soul of dead but sometimes means evil Kami. Ki-Do contains rituals of calming or summoning the departed soul. In the ancient there were no defference among Yaoyorozu-Sharman ,Kou and Ki-Do. Ancient Japanese sharmans served for a Kami and summon the Kami and be mounted. And they could summon departed souls. Moreover then, they could summon living one's soul! But some scholars think it's not truth. They argue that there were magical groups with mixture of Yaoyorozu sharmans,Guhji and Ki-Do sharmans because there is no such super sharman in the 6th world.
Ancient sharmanic queen Himiko is the most famous and strong Ki-Do sharman. She was also the queen of Yamataikoku, one of the old kingdoms before Japan united by Kamuyamatoiwarehiko the first Mikado(emperor).
Today (in the 21th century) some traditions of Ki-Do sharmans remains.
Famous one is Itako, they are special magical group that only woman can join. Itako can summon someone's dead relative and possesed herself. The dead can speak with living thorough her for some minutes. They are the mediator of living and dead. Most famous and great group of Itako is settled in Mt.Osorezan placed on the northern edge of Honsyu-island. Mt.Osorezan is the sepcial place for soul of deads.

Itako

Itako can summon ancestor spirt of anyone voluntary. She can also be mounted by her guardian ancestor spirit and work with his or her skills(but attribute). Itako character must be woman and has one guardian ancestor spirit to be mounted at first. Its skills are priority C. Deveide the the points to active,knowledge,linga and special skills(Max 6). Social skills are not allowed. (Notice that guardian ancestor is past parson lived in somewhere,sometime. ) While mounted she loose essneces like astral projection, and she cannot use her own skills but magical skills.
Itako cannot summon other nature spirits or elementals but watchers. When initiated Itako steps up to higher grade of initiation, she get one more guardian ancestor spirit. (Notice that she cannot get more ancestor spirit when she initiate to grade 0. And summoning spirit is only one a time(counting mounted). ) Itako can summon her guardian ancestor spirit as normal spirit. But if gurdian spirit is banished or deadly wounded,it never return.

Bon(Bit of Japanese Culture)

Bon is the Japanease function of summer. Bon is the term that ancestors spirits retun to home. Japanease people ignite small fire as the mark for their ancestor coming home and retunrning to their world without lost. Bon is the term all of relatives gattherd although living or dead. For Japanese, normal ancestors are not fearful being but still family.
(The burning fire is the ritual of summoning and banishing. Most great ritual is Gozan-no-Okuribi of Kyoto. the last of Bon, big and shaped fire ignite 5 hills. This events began because of plague.)
