Interesting Japanese QSL cards from my collection

| Lone Sailing Across the Pacific |
| I made this QSO with a lone sailing yacht which was on a voyage between San Francisco and Akashi Japan.
At the time of the QSO, he was near Honolulu Hawaii.
His vessel was named "Malt's Mermaid 2" and was constructed from 528 Beer barrels.
Captain Horie is remembered as a very famous yachtsman,
not only was he the first Japanese to cross the Pacific alone in 1962 but went on to even greater exploits. The QSL design was drawn up by his wife and is made mention of on the QSL. |
| From Top of Mt.Fuji |
| The Meteorology Agency Ham club JA2YYN was constructed on top of Mt. Fuji.
This represents one of the highest locations in Japan, 3776 meters.
The station was not avtive at all times and came on only at certain times.
When active, its signal was very strong due to its high transmitting site.
Later, the stations observation was changed to satellite operation and was closed in October 1999. Accurate position |
| Japanese Diet HAM Club |
| The Japanese National Assembly HAM club was established in 1981.
It had very good activity in the beginning, but recently the activity has dropped off to almost no activity at all.
The clubs first president was Prime Minister Mr.Kezo Obuchi. He passed away while still in office. Accurate position |
| The Ministry of Public Managiment (Post & Telecommunications minister) |
| The Ministry of Public Management (which issues licenses to Japanese HAMs
), was previously known as the Ministry of Telecommunications & Post
established JJ1YHC (Yusei-sho HAM Club) in Otemachi 1984. This Ministry
HAM club is located in Kudan in downtown Tokyo now. After moving, it seems
that activity at the present time is very low, or already QRT ? Accurate position |
| First HAM festival in Tokyo |
| The biggest Japanese HAM festival is held every end of August in Tokyo since 1977.
This special event used the call sign 8J1HAM for about the first twenty years which began in Sept.1977.
However, since that time other calls have been used, such as, 8N1HAM,8N1A,8J1A etc. Accurate position in 8J1HAM original festival site. Accurate position in 8J1A. |
| The Disneyland Club was on the air from all over the world. |
| This special QSL (Size 25x20cm) was issued for the opening event of Euro Disneyland in Paris during Apr 1992. During these event periods, all of Disneyland HAM clubs in the world came on the air ... Some were Los Angeles CA-N6MM, Paris-TM6MM, Tokyo-JL1YZB, and Orlando FL-WA4ABQ, (as well as R.M.S.Queen Mary in Long Beach CA-W6RO). I heard a funny voice on HF during that period, N6MM was calling CQ with a "Mickey Mouse" voice. But I am sure many HAMs thought, "Is this something of a mischief ?". We couldn't zero-in because of Mickey's shrilly voice on SSB !! |
| From Take-Jima Is. |
| Take-Jima (Tok Is. in Korean) is located about 200Km North West of Honshu,
the Japanese main land and 230Km east from the Korean peninsula.
Japan and South Korea both lay claim to this island and the dispute
between the two countries over the territory has remained unsolved for many years.
But, up to the present date, it has for a long time been occupied by the South Korean army.
Therefore, this island control is in South Korean hands.
So, HL stations come on the air once in a while from there.
But the JARL does not recognidze operation by HL licenses at that location.
This is the policy of the JA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
(It should be invalidated for the ADXA award ... as announced by the JARL).

| The Northen Territory problem |
| Japan has other territorial disputes similar to the above, Senkaku-Islands with China, and a
larger problem with Russia over the 4 Kurile Islands Group, namely, Kunashiri, Etorofu, Shikotan, and Habomai.
Once in a while, Russians stations can be heard from the Islands.
