Hi! My name is Yanase Daisuke*, a weekend artist from Japan, specializing in atmospheric streetscapes.
(* In this web site, names of Japanese people follow the local custom, Amayadori is a Japanese word for 'rain refuge'. In my mildly rainy country, this word carries something more than a nearby shelter, something relieving, snug and a bit poetic. I gave this name to my web gallery, remembering my courting phrase to my wife, 'Let's pass the rain in some art gallery. It's cool.' Here I treat you to a choice of colour-pencil drawings and proses from two of my albums. By them, I have been trying to resurrect the spirit of Japanese Ukiyoe, or pictures of the floating world. Working on, I keep in mind a maxim attributed to Japan's greatest dramatist, Chikamatsu Monzaemon that '(theatrical) Fun must be sought between skin and flesh; between fake and real' The sights along my lonesome journey: my first album privately published in 1987. Pensive saunter: my second album published in May 2001. Artist profile, etc. Some portrait studies, a brief self-introduction, postscript and site history. |
