| 11 | 私は,彼を日本に連れて帰ると決めていたので彼に心臓病があるとわかり、大変ショックでした。 その上、私の両親も猫を連れて帰ることに反対していました。そこで、私は彼を完璧な猫にするべく、全米でも有名な猫のカウンセラー（？）のセミナーに参加し、彼女は大変いいアドバイスをしてくれました。また、その頃は猫は日本に入るのに検疫は不要だったので健康診断書とか予防注射とかは要らなかったのですが、病気があったので念のため全てを用意しました。 それにいかに彼が清潔か見せる為に久しぶりに（前の家ではは洗わせてもらえなかった）彼を洗い、いかに彼がかわいく、かしこく、 また いかに猫はきれい好きかを見せる為、両親にたくさんの写真を送り、とうとう彼らはBoopyを連れて帰ることを承諾したのです。(1997.6) | I was very shocked to find out about his decease, since I already decided to go back to Japan with Boopy. Ｉｎ addition, My parents didn't want me to bring a cat back. So, I needed to make him be a perfect cat! Then, I joined a lecture of a nationally known feline behaviorist to learn about cat behavior. She gave me a lot of good advice. I also went to the vet to get ａ ｃｅｒｔｉｆｉｃａｔｅ for international movement even though ｉｔ wasn't required in 1997( As of Jan.1,'00, all cats are required certificate and vaccine, and also quarantine to enter Japan,). And then, I washed him to show my parents how clean he was. And I sent many of his pictures to my parents to explain how cute, smart he was and how clean cats were. 獣医さんもあのカウンセラーの先生にも絶対にBoopyを（動物カーゴは大きな動物と一緒になるので病気が悪化する可能性があるので）乗客キャビンに乗せなさいと言われました。幸い、ユナイテッドは動物を客室に乗せることを許可しているのですが、1機につき2頭までです。要は先着順！で、早めに電話で予約したのですがBoopy用のチケット（ちなみ当時＄145だった）はチェックインの時払えばいいと言われ、何となく不安になり、ダウンタウンのオフィスへ行って支払いたいと言うと案の定,彼らは動物カーゴを取っていたのです。そして、客室の方に代えて貰った時、Booは2頭目のペットだったのです。（もし、彼らを信じて当日まで支払いに行かなかったら大変な事になっていたのです）そして、運命の1997年7月27日、私たちはお世話になっていた友人家族に見送られ、SFOへとやって来ました。ここでもまた一騒動！ゲートに入る時の手荷物検査でBoopyを入れているバッグまであのX-Ray検査を受けろと係員に強要され私は大喧嘩してしまいました。そして責任者を呼んでもらい、事務所で私がBoopyを抱き抱えている間に係員がBoopyを入れてるバッグをチェックしてもらうことにしました。そして、いよいよ離陸という瞬間、獣医さんたちに飛行機の上で発作が起きる確立は高いと言われていたので私は恐怖でもう胸がつまりそうでした。でも、FAの人達はみんな猫好きでとてもよくしてくれたのでなんとかBoopyは無事に着陸を迎えました。長旅をじっと狭い籠の中で過ごした彼を私は本当に自慢に思います | The vet and the cat behaviorist told me that

for Boopy since he has a heart murmur.

Airline allowed pets, but only 2 pets
for
a passenger cabin. So, I made a reservation
by telephone earlier, and some attendants
told me that I could pay for it right
before
my flight. But, I didn't believe them,
so
I went to their downtown office. My
decision
was right! They reserved the animal
cargo
and Boo was the second pet in our passenger
cabin when I paid for it in advance!
On July,27,1997,
Boo and I went SFO for Japan. My friend's
family saw us off. When I was going
to the
gate, officers forced me to X-Ray check
the
pet carrier. So I argued them. Finally,
their
boss came out and we went to their
office,
and I took him out from the carrier.
Then
an officer checked it up. I was so
scared
when the airplane took off, since all
vets
told me there was a highly chance to
have
an attack on the airplane. However,
all the
flight attendants were very nice to
us, Boo
was Okay thru the landing. I am very
proud
of him! Boopy was so patient during
the entire

幸い、Boopyは無事にこの長旅を終え、関空に着いてターミナルに行こうとしている時、アメリカ人の男性が話し掛けてきました。「猫がいたのか！だから喧嘩してたんだね、SFOで」って。ガ-ン！ 私は急に恥かしくなりました。きっと、み〜んなあの人何なの？って見てたんですよね？！（母は子供の為に戦うものですよねぇ・・・）それから、私は動物検疫に一応行ったのですが、係員は検疫済みのシールをくれて「猫ちゃんは検疫外となっています」って。ついに、到着ロビーに着いたら、写真の大きな招き猫が私たちを歓迎してくれ、ちょっとなごみました。でも、この後゛はるか゛で新大阪に行き、また新幹線で岡山へ。Boopyにとっては長すぎる旅でした。やっと、家につき、Boopyはついに思いっきり伸びをする事ができました。 | Fortunately, Boo was Okay during the LONG trip. When I was going to the terminal, an American guy walked up to me and said, " Oh, you have a cat! That's why you had a big argument in SFO!" I was so embarrassed at the time. Maybe many people saw me arguing in SFO. Then, I went to Animal Quarantine and an officer gave me a sticker saying it had been quarantined. At last, we got to the arrival area where we were welcomed by two big Manekineko. However, we were still a long way from home. Then, we got an express train from KIX to Shin Osaka and then a bullet train to Okayama. It was a long way for Boo. When we finally got home, he would be able to stretch as much as he wanted. 日本に着いた次の日、早速獣医さんに連れて行きました。アメリカの獣医さんからカルテのコピーをもらっていたのでそれを持って行って説明したのですが、心臓は大丈夫でした。もちろん、心雑音はあったのですが、ひどいものではなかったようです。でも、その時先生が、「アメリカの猫ちゃんはみんなこんなに大きいのですか？」って聞かれ、初めてBoopyは大きいんだって気づきました。でも、アメリカでは全くMサイズだったんですよ。その年の岡山は非常に熱く、私とBoopyは完全に熱さにまいってしまいました。私にとっては５年ぶりの湿気のある熱さ、彼にとっては初めての本当の夏だったので、彼の毛ははげちゃうのって心配するほど抜けてしまいました。母は2人とも死んじゃうかと思ったそうです。それに、Boopyには初めての家なので彼はずっと私の部屋から出ようとしませんでした。そして、SFを懐かしんでいるのか、よく窓際で寂しそうに寝そべっていました。 | The day after arriving Japan, I took Boo
to a vet. His vet in America gave me
all
his medical documents, so I brought
them
and I explained about his condition
to the
vet. His heart was Okay. Of course,
he had
a heart murmur and rapid heart rate,
but
they were not so bad,anyway. I first
recognized
that he was bigger than Japanese cats
when
the vet asked me if all American cats
are
as big as him. You know, he was an
average
sized cat in America! It was very hot that year, so we suffered from the summer heat. I didn't experience such heat for a long time. It was first time for him to experience such heat, so he lost a lot of fur. I was worried that he might lose all his fur. My mom thought we might die from heat. A first, he just stayed in my room because everything was new to him. And, he would often lay down on a window and look around my room.(Aug.1997) |
