Kotoga
beach(Kotoga-hama) is located in Maji Nima-cho ,Shimane
Prefecture, western Honshu, Japan, known as a beautiful musical sandy
beach.
Long, long ago, there
lived a blind father and his daughter, called Koto Hime
who becomes 18 years old. 島根県邇摩郡仁摩町馬路(にまぐんにまちょうまじ) にある琴ケ浜。 その昔、平家に琴の名人として有名な盲目の父と、 その娘の18才になる琴姫がおりました。 |

family were defeated in Battle
of Dannoura.
The small boat to have taken Koto Hime who escaped from the battle,
wandered at sea for 3 days. Then, she met with a large storm. The boat has
been broken at last in furious sea. Koto Hime's remain who had hugged
a koto, drifted on the beach before long.
After a while , 琴姫の平家一族は 壇ノ浦の戦いに破れ、落ちのびる琴姫を乗せた船は、3日間海を彷徨い続けて、大きな嵐に合ってしまいました。 不憫に思った村人たちは、琴と共に浜の見える高台の松の下に
琴姫を葬りました。 それからしばらくして…、 |

On
a clear day, an old man who had walked leaning on his stick had visited
on this beach. He had listened to a beautiful melody of the Musical sand,
and found that Koto Hime had died. Then, he had disappeared in the
sea as he follows Koto Hime in death.
The old man was Koto Hime's father. ある晴れた日、ひとりの老人が杖を頼りに この浜を訪れました。 In the early years of Taisho, there was a tomb to surrounded with Tamagaki under the big old pine tree that was called by local people 'Tsuru-no -matsu'. It has been propagated to be worshiped Heike's princess here. (southern hill of JR Magi station ) Then this tomb was excavated by a local young men's association, and her ashes was found with soil of a vermilion from 3 meters bottom. Her ashes had been transfered to Mangyoji(a temple) in Magi, and the monument of koto Hime was constructed under a pine grove on the central beach. 地元で鶴の松と呼ばれたふた抱えもある大きな松の下に、玉垣を巡らした墓があり、そこに

Nima Sand Museum
(opened March 3, 1991 ) in Nima-cho, People can enjoy the world of Musical
sand and Micro shell while the biggest sandglass that was named Sunagoyomi
( Sandy calendar ) is recording a time.
この仁摩町にある仁摩サンドミュージアム(1991年3月3日 開館)では、砂暦(すなごよみ)という世界最大の砂時計が時を刻む中で、鳴き砂や微小貝の世界を学習することができます。 |

Kotoga beach. The number of nearly 160000.

The photographs and shells were offered from Shigeo MIWA and volunteers in Nima-cho, and we got Mr. Seiho Okamoto and other conchologists to explain an shell's analysis. and we got Mr. Chimai to draw some pictures. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your cooperation for us.
