He was born in Walton on Thames.
1963-1965
In Woodbridge, Nick had a band named 'Sounds 4 plus 1' with
his
classmate,Brinsley Schwartz. Afterwards it became 'Kippington
Lodge'.
1967
Kippington Lodge released their first single, Shy Boy.
1968
Nick joined Kippington Lodge. They released another 4
singles.
1969
Bob Andrews and Billy Rankin joined Kippington Lodge.
In September they changed the band name, Brinsley Schwartz.
1970
In February, Dave Robinson established Famepusher Ltd. and
promoted
Brinsley. Thanks to him, Brinsley could contracted with UA.
In April Dave invited 133 press men and musical critics to The
Fillmore
East, America to let them see the gig of Brinsley. But it was a
complete
failure. They released their first album,'Brinsley Schwartz.
In September Ian Gomm joined.
In November they released 'Depite It All'.
1972-1973
They released another 3 albums. They are 'Silver Pistle',
'Nervous On The
Road' and 'Please Don't Ever Change'.
1974
They released 'The New Favourites...' produced by Dave
Edmundsw
They performed on the movie 'Stardust' with Dave in November.
1975 Mar. 18
Brinsley Schwartz did the last gig.
1976
Jake Riviera established Stiff Records. He was the first musician
and
producer for Stiff Records.
In September Nick released his first solo single 'So It Goes/Heart
Of
The City'. Also He produced Dammed, Clover and so on.
1977
I April Elvis Costello released 'Less Than Zero'. It was produced
by Nick.
In May Nick released 4 track EP 'BOWI'. It was in reply to 'Low' by
David
Bowie.
Nick took part in Dave Edmunds' Rockpile in June. And they
performed
in the US.
In October Nick released 'Half Way To Paradise' and went on a
tour,
'Stiffs Live Stiffs Tour'.
1978
His first solo, Jesus Of Cool,was released in March.
In April Nick, Costello and Mink Devill held the US tour till
June.
In May a singlr,'So It Goes' was released only in the US.
In Sep, he appeared on Knebworth Fes.
In Oct, Rockpile held the US tour. WNEW broadcasted this tour.
1979
In Jan, 'Labour Of Lust' was released.
In July, a single, 'Cruel To BE Kind' was released in the US. It won
12th
on Billboard.
Nick got married to Carline Carter on 18th Aug. She is a
daughter-in-law of Johnny Cash.
On 29th Dec., Rockpile performed on Concert For The People
Of Campuchea.
1980
Rockpile performed at 'Heat Wave Fes' in Tront with Costello,
Pretenders and so on in August. Rockpile released 'Seconds
Of Pleasure' in October. Its first press had a bonus single
called
'Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds sing the Everly Brothers'. In
November Rockpile went on a last US tour.
1981
In Jan. a single called 'Heart' from Seconds Of Pleasure was
released. Rockpile broke up in Feb.
Afterwards he had his own band called Chaps (Paul Carrack:Key, Martin
Belmont;Guitar).
1982
In Jan., he released 'Nick the Knife.' It was the first album from
F-beat label which was established by Jake Riviera.
Feb, his band called 'Noise To Go' went US tour as opening act of
Cars for 7 weeks. That year, he produced albums of Paul Carrack and
Fabulous Thunderbirds.
1983
In April, he released 'Abominable Showman'. That year, his band went
US your as an opening act of Tom Petty for 3 months. Also he produced
albums of Bill Kirchen and John Hiatt.
1984
In June, he released 'Nick Lowe and his Cowboy Outfit'. 'Half A Boy
And Half A Man' was smash hit. He went world tour with Bob Dylan.
Also in August, Costello and him went tour.
That year, his first compilation ' 16 All Time Lowes was
released.
