Summary of Annual report on forestry and forest of Japan made by MAFF
(December 11, 2001)


The Annual Report on Japanese Forestry is published by the Forestry Agency in April every year to submit to the National Diet in accordance with the Basic Law of Forestry.

The English version of its summary is published as a provisional translation of "Annual Report of trend of Forestry". Latest version (in fiscal 2000) was released this August.

Contents are as follows:

1 History of previous forestry policy and the direction of the new basic policy

2 Appropriate forest management and conservation to fulfill multi-functionality

3 Development of forestry and mountain villages responsible to maintain healthy and vital forests

4 Promoting wood industry that supports cyclical use of forest resources

5 Reform of national forest management to create "forests for the people"

6 Global trends in forest and forestry and Japan's contributions
