Miho Hirai was born in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. She began piano lessons at the age of five and learned at the Music School for Children affiliated with the Toho Gakuen School of Music. Following more training in the Toho Gakuen Music High School, she went to the Toho Gakuen School of Music to study piano with Nobutatsu Kawashima.

0n graduating in 1991, she furthered her studies in the Master's Course of the Toho Gakuen, where she studied harpsichord with Chiyoko Arita, chamber music with Masahiro Arita and others, and started to make her regular appearance as a harpsichordist. ln 1994, she went to Den Haag Royal Conservatory in the Netherlands, where she studied harpsichord with Jaques Ogg,chamber music with Kuijken brothers, and other related subjects. She performed actively in many parts of Europe.
ln 1997, she moved her activity base to Japan and has been vigorously pursuing her career in various occasions such as TV and radio broadcasting, concerts and recordings. She won the first prize at the Eighth Young Musicians' Competition in Toyama,the Prefectural Governor's award and the Kitanippon Press' award for music.She performs with the baroque ensemble “La fte galante”, and has participated in the performance and recording of the orchestra “Conversum Musicum”.She is also co-producing a duo recital series with recorder entitled “Aspects of ltalian Baroque Music”, and pursuing the charm of ltalian music in 16th and 18th centuries through studies and performances.
