| In the Chekhov's period, there was the only
small village called Vladimirovka. But, at

new city called Toyohara was built as the
political city of Sakhalin on purpose. The
Karafuto-Cho was situated in the center of
Toyohara from 1908. Because the Karafuto-Cho

It was also the industrial center of Sakhalin, the Oji Paper Mill, Sugar Factory and Alcohol Factory situated on Toyohara. was the central city of Southern Sakhalin. In 1936, Toyohara was promoted to City. Nowadays, Toyohara was changed into Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, but Many buildings in the Japanese Period, for Example, the Regional Museum, and Military Law Office, and so on. |
