Honto in 1930

Honto was called 'Ponto-Keshi' (probably in Ainu Language) at the beginning of the Japanese period. In early 1910s, Japanese began to pay attention to Honto, which was excellent port naturally. Therefore, since 1916, Japanese had been constructed large port for seven years. Honto was developed by only port without the paper mill. In 1926, Honto had 1,622 households and 8,076 people.
