個人の活動＞地震火山こどもサマースクール「Mt.Rokkoのナゾ」
要旨
2004年8月7〜8日の２日間，神戸市灘区人と防災未来センター、六甲山などを 会場とし，一般から募集した児童・生徒を対象として表記のサマースクール
（主催：社団法人日本地震学会、特定非営利法人日本火山学会、阪神・淡路大 震災記念人と防災未来センター、兵庫県）を企画・実施したので簡単な報告す

経緯と企画概要
日本地震学会と日本火山学会が共同して行ってきた「地震・火山こどもサマー スクール」は、今回は「第５回地震・火山こどもサマースクール Mt.Rokkoの
ナゾ」として神戸市で開催された。1999年は静岡県函南町の丹那断層、2000年 は北海道の有珠山、2001年は伊豆大島、2003年は富士山をフィールドに、主に
地元の児童・生徒を対象とした「地震・火山こどもサマースクール」を開いて きた。いずれも過去に大きな自然災害に見舞われた土地であり、被災地で児童
・生徒によりよい地震・火山教育を行いたいというのが企画の目的である。
これら一連の企画の教育方針や実施上の工夫は，次の通りである。
1. 第一線の専門家が、こどもの視点にまで下りて、地震・火山現象のしくみ ・本質を直接語る。
2. 災害だけでなく、災害と不可分の関係にある自然の恵みを伝える。
3. 初めから解答を与えてしまうのではなく、まず課題を与えて考えさせ、与 えた材料を有機的に結びつけることによってこどもが自分なりの答がみつけら
れるようにリード・サポートする。
日程は8月7日と8日の日帰り2日とし、第1日目は実験と講義、第2日目は六甲山 の巡検を行った。
Mt.Rokkoのナゾ
小学校5年生から高校2年生までの児童・生徒が日本各地から計21名参加した。 企画・運営には全国よりボランティアで研究者・教師などが51名参加した。
8月7日神戸市灘区にある「人と防災未来センター」へ集合し、開会式とオリエ ンテーションを行い、2日間を通じて取り組む課題を与えた。その後、地震・
火山に関する講義と実験を行った。
8月8日午前中は新神戸〜布引き地域と六甲山上で野外観察を行なった．午後は 「人と防災未来センター」でパネルディスカッションを行ない、その後閉会式
を行った。閉会式では参加者全員に「なまず博士」の認定証を授与した。
野外での地形・地質観察や室内実験をゲーム形式での説明をしながら児童・生 徒に体験させることによって、火山・地震災害や津波・断層などについての基
礎知識を学び、大地の営みについての理解を深めさせた。観察地点では、案内 者の一方的な解説とならぬよう、参加者を年令を分散させたチームに分けて共
通の課題をあたえ、よい質問やよい回答をしたチームにはカードをあたえ、集 めたカードの枚数を競わせるゲーム方式をとった。
今回の企画で得たこと学んだことを参加者がパネルディスカッションとして発表した。

Summary We held The Schoolchildren's summer course of seismology
and volcanology on August 7-8,2004. Our Management policy is as
follows, Scientists tell children about earthquakes and volcanos.
Children learn not about the risks of natural disasters but about
the long-term benefits produced by the activities of earthquakes
and volcanos. The children were split into several teams of 5
or 6 throughout the activities.We first pose several questions
to the children and support them finding their own answers.We
introduce team competition for collecting cards which are given
to children presenting unique answers or ideas.
The body
We opened the Working group on March 2004 and looked for volunteer
academic researchers and teachers.This project was held from August
7 to August8 .We learned about earthquakes and volcanoes by experiments
and observations on August7.We went to observation points at Mt.Rokko
on August 8. Participants in the summit were 21 schoolchildren.They
were taken care of by 51 volunteer academic researchers and teachers.Disaster
Reduction and Human Renovation Institution and the Hyogo Prefecture
cooperated with us. The schedule was as follows. August 7 Children
gathered at Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution
in Kobe. An opening ceremony and orientation was held in the DRI.Children
separated into 5 groups, and learned about earthquakes and volcanoes
by the experiments and observations. August 8
Children gathered at ShinKobe station.Then we went to Nunobiki
Region and observed Nunobiki Fault .Next, we went to Mt.Rokko
and observed topography. Finally We gathered in the DRI in the
afternoon and announced the answers to the questions that was
given to the children the previous day.A closing ceremony was
held at there.
