Our Headmaster was succeeded by Mr. Hajime Risho Hayabuchi since 21st of
March in 2006 and Ms. Kiyoko Riso HAYABUCHI became as SOGEN. Her
father, the founder of this style, was born in SAMURAI family and trained
her as a boy since she was only three years old. So she is a very
strict teacher but very kind and hospitable out of the DOJO.
She has been a judge for the final competition in NIPPON GIN KENSHIBU Federation
for several years.

Where you can learn this?
There are two sorts of dancing in KENSHIBU DO. One is KENBU and the
other is SHIBU. SHIBU is called SENBU in some styles.
KEN means a sword, SEN means a fan and BU means dancing. So we can
explain KENBU as a dance with a sword and SHIBU as with a fan. Of
course we use another weapons or things suit for the stories we perform.
We use Chinese style poems for KENSHIBU DO normally and the singers
sing those with BGM for us.
The bygone SAMURAI in our country fought with swords, spears or other weapons, but
as time passed they changed their sword technique into the Martial Arts
as IAI DO. It has been quite strict to learn IAI DO physically and
mentally, and not very interesting for the ordinary people, unfortunately.
The founders thought to make another way to maintain or introduce
their technique for the modern world, and joined the Martial Arts and Japanese
Traditional Dancing as KABUKI, NICHIBU or NOU together with the SAMURAI
spirit. So it is necessary to learn traditional Japanese etiquette
when you learn this. This is the origin of KENBU.
It was prohibited to use a sword even in dancing around the end of the
WORLD WAR SECOND. They had to find another way again and established
SHIBU using a fan instead of a sword. So we have to be men even when
we do SHIBU wearing KIMONO for men basically.
There are hundreds, thousands of styles of KENSHIBU DO in Japan. But
it will be possible to make two groups. One is based on the Martial
Arts and the other is based on the Traditional Japanese Dancing. I
hope you to find out which is which when you watch KENSHIBU DO.
The poems we use will tell you the histories or the culture in Japan or
China and it is very important to understand those to perform it with very
good expression.
What is Kenshibu Do?
Our style, SHINDEN SHINSEI HAYABUCHI RYU KENSHIBU DO, was established by the former headmaster Miyuki Risho HAYABUCHI with a permission from Kan-ichiro KINBUSA, the founder of KINBUSA RYU KENSHIBU DO in Kyushu from whom he had learned. Both styles are based on ARAKI MUNINSAI RYU IAI DO. So our basic technique, even in SHIBU, is very strong and quick as the Martial Arts, yet on the other hand having the ability to express great emotion, calmness or the many moods that may be required. We also combine the etiquette of the SAMURAI.
