surrounded by
many poinsettias

with Christmas lights--
street performers are singing
New!
(modulo woe oat Mebaru kudo no mine)

after the silent prayer
for the victims of the atomic bomb--
I look up towering thunderclouds

(suisen ya hibuse no kami no owasu sato)

daffodils--
in the village
a fire prevention god is

are astonished
by daytime thunder

in late Autumn...
deep valleys absorb
motorcycle's exhaust sound
(momijiba ya tsuuringutai mie gakure)

I see
a motorcycle touring group
among red and yellow leaves
(shoukyuushi miorosu tani ni

a short rest of climbing--
yellow leaves are falling
into the deep valley
(renpou ni meian kizamu
aki-irihi)

on mountain ranges--
sunset's light discloses
ridges and valleys clearly
( kurasukai e handoru karushi
korokugatsu)

to the class union,
the steering is nimble
in Indian summer
(Chuuzenjiko yuubaenami ni kamo rorite)

a mountain lake--
wild ducks rest
in shimmering sunset
(rotenburo tochino namari ni fuyu no tsuki)

bathing in outdoor hot spring,
hearing local accents
and watching the winter moon
(horoyoi no ware wo isameri orionza)

I slightly drunk...
the Orion whispered
"Don't drink too much"
(migi hidari kaji kirikaesu hatsubaiku)

left and right,
I agressively corners on motorcycle
on New Year's Day
(fukidamaru kunugi ochiba noatatasa)

drifts of dead leaves--
of oak tree
look very comfortable
(kareha fumu yomichi ya oujino koe oboyu)

I surely heard
the voices of ancient people,
walking on dry dead-leaves
(miharukasu Ryuutou-zen no yukigoromo)

a beautiful distance view
of a snow-capped mountain
from my office
(Orion ni sora shimerarete washi no sato)

filled the sky by Orion...
old mountain-village
is sleeping
(kami wo suku jyoshikousei ya kazehikaru)

a girl combs her hair,
on her way to school...
Spring has come
(roubai-ya horobi no sato ni sakihokori)

old Ume-tree--
blooms gorgeously
in a ruining hamlet
(norazukare kyou ha ennite harunoyume)

I take a nap at sunny veranda, having been very tired
of weekend farming
(fukinotou chinoikioi wo ete ideshi)

butterbur sprout
comes out,
raised by Mother-earth

(shibamebuku saccor-jyou ni kora hazumu)

boys play soccer
in the ground
with budding turfs
(motsuretutu kichou ochiyuku soha no soko)

following together...
yellow butterflis
fall down into deep cliff
