!!!!! Edition OMEGA POINT Archive Series - STILL FLESH !!!!!

šš Kazuo Uehara "EVENT '73" (CD)
Edition OMEGA POINT Archive Series OPA-015 / price: 2,600 yen (US$32.5)

From 1972 to 1973, I was based in New York for my creative activities and live performances. New York at this time was in its golden age of experimental music. Towards the end of my stay, I held a live performance entitled "EVENT '73" to sum up my creative works in New York. The venue for the performance was "The Kitchen" of the Mercer Arts Center that provided spaces for innovative and emerging artists.
This CD consists of a mixture of sounds that were created at a studio prior to the live performance and the sounds recorded live at the performance.
I used the Buckla Synthesizer for electronic sound and also for transformation of the sound.

The work has four different segments:
1. Diffusion / 2. Condensation / 3. Chaos / 4. Revolution
Each segment's meanings and sounds itself doesn't necessarily correlate to each other. Yet, the images that are evoked by each word express the chaotic world of the day. - from liner note by artist.

šš Kazuo Uehara "Early Works" (CD)
Edition OMEGA POINT Archive Series OPA-016 / price: 2,600 yen (US$32.5)

1. Seoul 1982
This piece was composed using the recorded sounds as raw material. It was to reassemble the "historical" soundscape of the Korea's capital city, Seoul, in the early 1980s.
During this time, despite the political chaos and the tension in the city under the Korean military government, I felt the lively energy in its people's life. The raw material comprised of wide range of different sounds includes the street cries in the downtown, cheerful voices of children in Namsang area, noise of arterial streets, and conversations of the students at the Seoul National University.

2. Music for Contemporary Dance - dedicate to Takao Kusuno
In 1970s, the art space "Jean-Jean" in Shibuya served as a popular venue for experimental music, theatre, dance and others. In this movement, I did collaboration works with Takao Kusuno who performed as the artist and dance director. This piece for the dance was composed in collaboration with Kusuno to explore new approaches for dance. The work has two consecutive parts with the subtitles "Crows Habit" and "I am a Clown". It was not merely a contemporary dance, nor Butoh, but it indicated the contemporary room for the dance scene of the time.

3. Science Technology Expo '85 - Music for "Cell Universe"
The piece was specially composed for the Health and Sports Pavilion "Cell Universe" at the International Exposition, Tsukuba, Japan, 1985. The space was comprised of twenty-seven-multiscreen film and stereophonic space. The uniquely designed space controller, the system for moving sound image, made it possible to control the electronic acoustic sound image to create virtual 3D space.

4. Homage to Xenakis
This piece was composed at a UPIC workshop held in Tokyo in 1980s where the composer Iannis Xenakis made remarks on each presented work. The musical composition tool, UPIC, was created by Xenakis. This unique sound synthesis system allows the user to create music by drawing lines on the board. Xenakis originally envisaged this tool to be used for pedagogical purpose. Other than musicians, the workshop drew participants from children to adults from the public. - from liner note by artist.

!!!!! NEW ARRIVAL !!!!!

šš m/s (=Minoru Sato) "NRF Amplification" (CD)
private issue / price: 2200 yen (US$27.5)

A closed space such as a room or a vessel has a specific sound according to the material it is made of and its geometric form. This sound is called Natural Resonant Frequencies. I'm using several glass tubes / glass vases as same geometic chambers. I then transport the sound from one of the chambers to another, over and over again. As a result, the natural resonant frequencies are emphasized.
When the sound is returned to the first one -i.e. making systematic feedback, only the stable frequencies resound. I made an installation by this way. When the sound returns through the air, the complex feedback reacts on vrious factors - for instance a relation between loudness on each chambers, a locational relation between audiences and chambers and so on. My compositions and live installation are derived from these factors. - from liner note

minoru sato -m/s, SASW is a japanese artist. he has an interest in a relationship between a description of nature and an art representation, and he is creating art works per physical phenomena and various concepts. in addition, he has several music projects - solo, collaboration with ASUNA, IL GRANDE SILENZIO, f u r and so on, and besides he is organizing contemporary art exhibitions and various events as curator.

!!!!! YOSHI WADA PROJECT !!!!!

ššYoshi Wada "Earth Horns with Electronic Drone" (CD)
EM1080CD + OP-0007 / price: 2,415 yen (US$28.4)

- A world premiere from Yoshi Wada and EM Records/Omega Point: the first-ever release of "Earth Horns with Electronic Drone", recorded live in 1974. Combining four of Wada's self-made "pipehorns" (made from plumbing materials, over three meters in length), with an electronic drone tuned to the electrical current of the performance space, this is a lost masterpiece of early minimalism, placing Wada rightfully in the pantheon with La Monte Young, Phill Niblock, Maryanne Amacher and Alvin Lucier.Recorded live in Syracuse, New York, this recording captures the room-filling complex overtones generated by the ever-shifting interplay of the breathing horns and the constant electronic drone. This is a music of ritual hypnotic power, its heavy low end mass and sense of change within constancy engendering a meditative transcendency.
"Earth Horns with Electronic Drone" is the fourth and ultimate release in our Yoshi Wada series, a must for all fans of minimalism, heavy drones, ritual, mystery and world-shaking transcendence. From an original performance of almost three hours, the CD features a 77 minute excerpt; we are especially honored to also offer the full performance as a triple LP set (sold out). From Earth Horns to beyond the firmament: prepare to be elevated! Incl. reproduction of a 1975 poster by fluxus boss George Maciunas. - EM Records

- The Jomon Period of Japanese history began between twelve and thirteen thousand years ago and to continue for ten thousand year. The middle part of the J?mon Period was an age of high cultural development: many artifacts providing a vivid description of the spiritual world of the time have been uncovered, and it is during the mid-J?mon Period that we come across the earliest musical instruments to be found in Japan.
This CD featured performances on an unusual earthenware object through by scholars to have been a large drum and on reconstructed versions of earthenware flutes and bells. Two flutes discovered in excavations are also used. This is the first ever recording featuring musical instruments uncovered at leading archaeological sites. recorded in 1990. -
