His main activity today is the Black Liars, the backing band of Rich Hall. In this show, Rich Hall plays Otis Lee Crenshaw who has been married seven times, to women who were all called Brenda and spends a lot of time in prisons. When Christian plays in the Black liars, he uses the name "Orson Carson" and speaks in an American accent. Damian, the bassist, is "Alvy Ronson".
I first saw them at the Edingburgh festival in 2002. We just happened to see the show called "Best of the Fest". Otis Lee & the Black Liars was the last of the three acts. Otis sang country rock songs in his brilliant husky voice, while I was almost sleeping because of jetlag. But it was Christian's voice that woke me up. Otis started a song with the line "Piano is like a woman..", Chrsitian followed it with "Guitar is like a woman." The thrilling vibrations shook me. "It's so ellegant and tasteful. .... When you hold her like a lover on a sultry midnight stroll." He continued the sweet ballad in his distinguished voice, and then "and it's even got a hole". Oh, this is such a nice simple and direct punch line in a dead-pan style. And he has the smile of POKO-chan.
Several days later, we went to see Rich's other show as a solo comedian. After the gig, Rich Hall was talking with somebody behind the P.A. system, and that was Christian. Christian already might be Rich's right hand man.
In the 2003, the Black Liars released their own CD "Black Album". Christian sings most of the songs on that. Although it is a satisfying one for Christian's fans, I think his voice is the best on that "Guitar is like a woman" song.
Apart from the Black Liars, he acts as a solo standup comedian. He will do his own stand up for 26 nights in Edinburgh in the 2003 festival. He's already shown his talent as a comedian with Otis Lee. It is not so obvious but he often plays a fine straight man against Otis. I cannot wait for the Edinburgh festival. It should be a very good show because he says he will also sing.
That's not all. He is also a member of Novalounge with Damian Coldwell. What will happen in his future ?

I saw both of
his standup comedy and Novalounge gig at Edinburgh this year. Novalounge
is such a charming band. Christian and Damian are skillful frontmen and aroused
the audience very well. Addition of that, the supporting members were good.
Charlie is a cute boy but his keyboard play is hot. The DJ was Richie, who
won the Euro DJ contest. His scrach play was of course fantastic but he was
so impressive because he is exactly my type.
