After being aggressively recruited by the company's president,Shinzo Fukuhara, and the Japan Photographic Sociaty,Tadashi Murabayashi joined Shiseido in 1936. At Shiseido, he served as staff photographer, taking pictures of various products and models. Mr.Fukuhara suffered from an eye desease which left him nearly blind so he relied heavily upon the assistance of Tadashi, who took photos of nature, developed and enlarged his works. After World War II, Tadashi and other 16 photographers formed an association called Ginryusha, the progeniter of the present APA,Japan Advertising Photographers' Association. During this time he held several exhibitions and gave technical advice for photography magazines. |
In 1951, he went to work for Nissan, taking photos for advertisements, posters and the company newsletter. His promotional work included a series of photos featuring actresses in Kimono with Nissan's new cars. He always said,"Taking ad photos is my way of living. It also improves my ability to promote fine works. I want to express myself and that's my mission." |
