3  EDUCATION
Speaking of a literacy rate in India, the male is 69% and the female is 46%. Accordingly, India with a population of 1,100million is to have 450million illiterate people. This is an incredible number compared with the Japanese situation of literacy rate mostly 100%. And furthermore, the tendency of a low literacy rate is remarkable in rural area.
Educationally this area is far behind the national mainstream. It is only now that the villagers have started sending their children to school though with a lot of reluctance. They found the importance they make their children go to school. Being poor and illiterate they have been easy prey to the greedy and exploitative tactics of the rich landlords and moneylenders.
They have another promlem too. In this area even elemantary school students have to board at school because their houses are far from school. Since a means of transportation is not sufficient, students need to part from their parents for study. So they live in school and have every meals also at school.
In Dediapada province there are 214 villages. At present only 169 villages have got Schools. In 135 villages there is a School from std./grade I up to IV. In 34 villages there is a School from std./grade I to VII. There are in all 9 High Schools, from std./grade 8 to 10. And there are only two higher Secondary Schools from std./grade 11th to 12th.
