Butokuden Butokuden - an Important National Treasure
Situated to the west of the Heian Shrine, it was built in 1900 as a place for the promotion of bujitsu. It is now used as the budo centre for Kyoto where aikido, kendo, judo, etc. are practised.

While conforming to the traditional form with a rich exterior this gives way to a simple practice area and plain seating with extensive use of
bright windows. It is valuable example of a modern budo establishment and a big contribution to the promotion of Japanese bujitsu and its modernisation.
