| Who brought carp into Japan? When? Why? Or did it live in Japan? Are the bones discovered in the layers
of Tertiary and Quaternary Period the same as those of our time? If anyone knows, please let me know. Carp was brought into the United States of America by Europeans who migrated there. When I visited a restaurant that served carp dishes by the Tigris River, running through the center of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, I was impressed by the fact that the city had been the home of carp for thousands of years. It is also the cradle of civilization. I wondered if I could fish carps by the Tigris River when I visited in '90s. But I was told that foreigners weren’t allowed to fish. This was because they might measure the depth of the river , or plan to explode the important bridges at the points of strategy, by pretending to be an angler. No one could be seen fishing there, and when I went to the bridge of the points, a soldier with a gun was standing there. I said hello to him, but I realized how peacefully we Japanese were living. |

According to recent information, the volume of the water in the river
Tigri has drastically reduced. Now, there is no more such strict management
for the river as of Saddam Hussein's regime. The water quality is deteriorating.
Formerly the severe punishment was applied for the dumping of garbage
into the river. The war also has damaged the hearts of the people? (the
current information as of May, 2008)
