| Licence for carp fishing In principle you should have a licence, however it is not so strict, because carp is no longer of commercial value in Japan as it was before World War II. The licence is issued by the prefectural government, but almost actually by the fishery association of the prefecture. It costs about \4,000(aboutUS$40) a year. However, you should note that a licence is vital for some fish such as sweetfish (ayu) char(iwana, yamame) In some areas the numbers of rods per capita is limited, like "less than three rods" |

This is the licence issued by the fishery association of the Ibaraki prefecture, which I have. On the licence, it is clearly mentioned that the licence is not applicable to ayu, yamame and iwana. |

| The tackles of carp fishing in Japan There are many ways for carp fishing in Japan. However, carp fishing by floats or lures is not so popular. Mostly the carp anglers use from 2 to 5 rods on the rod rests with sensors. They stay there for a few days or some times more than a week. |
