The Festival

The Procession We have a great festival at the beginning of August every year (Aug.2 (the eve) and 3 (the main) '03). It's famous for the procession by which the spirit of the deity is removed from the shrine and escorted on a tour of the temporary shrine on the beach

Yakko Yakko is especiallyfamous and excellent!! Yakko originally means the retainers who served Daimyou in Japanese Tokugawa-age. They carried camouflaged spears, escorting their master, Tonosama, on the tour of his own castle and Edojo(Tokyo). In our festival 19 young men play the role of Yakko, carrying the huge camouflaged spears and shouting hard. Anyway please come and see them!! We welcome you sincerely.

Yakko "kasa hoko"

Yatai Yatai is beautifully decorated with dolls and lanterns. It is drawn by men and women, and children. Sometime it is drawn slowly and gently, and sometime roughly. It is accompanied by festive music ( matsuri bayashi )
