Mt.Fuji (History)

Mt.fuji is 3,376meters above sea level. It is an active volcano. The last eruption was on the twenty-third day of the Eleventh Moon in the Forth Year of Hou-ei (1707). At that time Mt.Hoei appeared on the side of Mt.Fuji.

COLD
January 30 2003, it was very cold on the peak of Mt.Fuji.The temperature went down to -26.2 degrees centigrade .The wind was blowing from the west at 34.4 meters per second. The snow was whirled up by the wind and it looked, at a distance, like a great tongue of flame shooting out from the sun's surface.

RAIN
They say when Mt.Fuji puts up it's umbrella it shall begin to rain. The umbrella is the cloud. They call it"Kasa-gumo". Kasa means umbrella and gumo means cloud. On Feb. 8 in the afternoon we saw kasagumo, and we knew it would rain that night, and it did at Ohito town.

Kasa-gumo reached Mt.Fuji.
