Subfamily Phryganeinae Burmeister

Seven genera have been recorded from Japan.

Genus Agrypnia Curtis

Five named species were recorded from Japan. Larvae recorded as a European species, Phryganea varia, by Iwata (1927a, 1927b) undoubtedly belong to this genus (Wiggins 1998), but cannot be identified as a species. A. colorata Hagen recorded by Kuwayama (1973) as Dasystegia principalis (Martynov) is a misidentification of A. acristata or A. sordida (Wiggins 1998).
