"GALLARIES REVIEW"
Text by INOUE Syoji

Installation work, spreadng cushons on which pictures of faces are printed all over the floor. when people sit on it,visage are deformed. Can people step on the face? This is a sort of HUMIE. August Sander (1876-1964) took photographs of people's faces not as a portrait but as a simple object without aula. Tsubakihara's work faces are anti-esthetic and flat because they are captured from snapshots. The mixture of pure perception of material as a print on cushon and subjective reaction containing memories about the image, it is one of the viewpoints of this work.

*HUMIE = a plate with a crucifix or other Christian simbol (to be trodden on in order to prove one-self a non-Christian).
