BIRDS:→SEE NEXT PAGE
- This area (Boca Tapada) is one of the best place for bird
watching in Costa Rica. I think this place is better than Cano
Negro, because not so many bird watchers come to this area and
water birds and forest birds are observed at the same place.
- More than 350 spices of water and forest birds are observed
around there. They have a checklist prepared by bird specialists.
For example of special birds around here; Green
Ibis, Agami heron (Chestnut-bellied Heron), King Vulture, White
Hawk, Forest Falcons, Great Green Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Hummingbirds,
Black-throated Trogon, Slaty-tailed Trogon, Rufous Motmot, Broad-billed
Motmot, Kingfishers, Great Jacanar, Pale-billed Woodpecker, Collared
Aracari, Toucans, Snowy Cotinga, Red-capped Manakin, Gray Catbird,
Scarlet Tanager, Blue Dacnis, Scarlet-thighed Dacnis, Olive-backed
Euphonia, Black-headed Saltator, Yellow-Tailed Oriole, Scarlet-rumped
Cacique, etc.
- Lots of birds are observed around feeder table at the garden
in the lodge.
- They organize boat safari along the San Crlos River to the
border of Nicaragua. May oberve a lot of water birds.
- They organize guided walk in their reserve. Mr. Oscar Artavia
is very good guide for bird watching.
