Wildlife of Ampijoroa Forestry Station

LOCATION:
  • Western Madagascar
  • About 500Km from Antananarivo
ACCESS:
  • About 12hrs drive on the bad road from Antananarivo to Ampijoroa.
  • Getting to Majunga from Antananarivo by air
  • About 1.5hrs drive from Majunga.
ACCOMMODATION:
  • There was no accomodation and only camping was permitted in 1996.
  • Simple accomodation was building in the station at that time.

  • This is the place to maybe observe rare Madagascar Fish Eagle.
  • Examples of the key species aroud here are Madagascar fish eagle, White-breasted mesite, Red-capped coua, Coquerel's coua, Crested coua, Madagascar green pigeon, Schlegel's asity, Van Dam's vanga, Roufous Vanga, Sickle-billed vanga, Greater vasa parrot, Madagascar pigmy kingfisher, etc....
