AFRICAN FISH EAGLE

(Haliaeetus vocifer)

The density of Fish Eagle around Lake Malawi is thought to be one of the highest anywhere in Africa.

BROWNHEADED PARROT

(Poicephalus cryptoxanthus)

Small flocks occur in broadleafed woodland, mixed bushveld and thornveld. But I saw this bird around the lake frequently.

CROWNED CRANE

(Balearica regulorum)

Flocks in Grasslands, Farmlands and marshy regions. Not so common in Malawi.

HADEDA IBIS

(GERONTICUS CALVUS)

Common resident in Malawi. Small flocks on damp ground and near water.

PIED KINGFISHER

(Ceryle rudius)

Common resident in Malawi. In pairs or small parties inland on rivers or dams and coastal lagoons.

GOLIATH HERON

(Ardea goliath)

Common in Lake Malawi. The largest heron in Africa. Singly or pairs on large stretches of water, rivers, lakes and pans.
