Subject: Tsunami - blind ICEVI
Dear Friends,
Deadliest Great Waves in more than a century has taken a toll of
over 100,000 people with many more missing in South Asia &
South East Asia. While International Agencies, Relief
Organizations, Expert Relief teams from governments are or have
mobilized and are already helping countries like Indonesia, Sri
Lanka, India and Thailand. Mr Larry (ICEVI world president), Mr
Steve (ICEVI world deputy president) & Dr Mani (ICEVI Sec
Gen) has raised concerns and enquired from the Regional Chair to
asses and find if any visually impaired people are effected by
this tidal wave tsunami.
I am writing this on behalf of Ms Mavis Campos, East Asia
Regional Chair and Dr Ismail Salleh, Deputy Chair (Asean) in an
attempt to get some information of any visually impaired or
institutions effected by this tidal wave .
We would like to asses the need and get information on the
effect, loss or impact it has created on the visually impaired or
institutions in the area. We will than try source to possibly
help rehabilitate or even replace if there are means for it
through our resources. Suggestions of how help could be mobilized
is also appreciated.
It could be helping to locate/finding shelter, replacing
educational items lost/destroyed, part funding of rebuilding
blind instituitions etc. All this
is definetely not possible by ICEVI alone but ICEVI could
initiate, help mobilize or even help reach them through resources
like INGOs, Governments or others and implement through the
country or regional ICEVI network.
Would appreciate if you could send your info and feed back to
this loop.
Thanking you
serving the blind since 1951
