Yoshii-machi is located in the southeastern part of Fukuoka prefecture. The Minou Mountains rise to the south of the town. To the north, flows the powerful Chikugo River, and the JR Kyudai train line and route 210 traverse the agricultural center of Yoshii. The Yoshii area is home to beautiful countryside as well as a long history of inhabitation. It is believed that there have been people living in the area since 10,000 B.C. Yoshii has number of tombs and artifacts that have been selected by the national government as important culture objects. These objects have expanded archaeologists' and historians' knowledge of the area. Visitors can view the many tombs and ancient temples in the area.During the Middle and Modern Ages, Yoshii has became important in the political and commercial activities of the region. Sitting at the midpoint of the old route linking the cities of Kurume and Hita, Yoshii has preserved numerous white-walled buildings dating from centuries past. These traditional villagescapes, combined with the gently flowing streams and beautiful mountains of Yoshii, provide many images of Japan's countryside.
