Subject: Mars images - Aug 23, 27, 31
Hello everyone...
I finally finished
processing last week images, which I have attached. Overall, seeing has been
poor with only the Aug 23 images revealing any amount of detail.
The Aug 23
images were taken at Starfest, a combined
effort of Brian Lula, Gord Rife and myself. Brian Lula offered the use of his beautiful 20cm, f15 Maksutov
while Gord and I captured the images and worked at
processing. Seeing was good that night,
and transparency as also very good. Solis lacus was placed on the central meridian
and presents a wealth of detail. I slightly different set of filters were used with
the portable filterwheel. Details noted on the image.
The pair of images from the 27th and
31st
were taken with the 30cm SCT @f34 (standard
Maple Ridge scope) and ToUcam with Schuler filters. Seeing
was poor both nights, and I manually selected the best 10-12 frames from 450 in
the video clip. Aug 31 images were slightly better. Both nights suffered from
intermittent thin cirrus cloud, and I tried not to image while the cloud was
present.
All images aligned and
stacked with RegiStax and processed with MaximCCD.
Please let me know if there
are any questions or comments.
Thanks,
Brian COLVILLE
