New Minerals from Hokkaido
Mikasaite
Chemical formula: Fe2(SO4)3
Locality: Ikushunbetsu, Mikasa City
Mikasaite was discovered by Mr. S.Matsuda of Mikasa City, and by Mr. K. Kobayashi and Mr. K. Hasegawa of the Mikasa City Museum and was reported as a new mineral by Dr. H. Miura, Mr. T. Hirama, and Dr. K. Niida in 1993.

It occurs as a sublimate around fractures from which coal gas escapes.


In its whitish brown color can be seen aggregates of fine porous crystals.
